How does it works?

When cells are stressed, nitric oxide (NO) inhibits oxygen consumption by mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase. This reduces production of ATP and causes oxidative stress leading to increased inflammation and reduced production of ATP. LLLT displaces NO from cytochrome C oxidase thereby reducing inflammation and restoring ATP production, healing tissues more quickly.


Low level laser therapy (LLLT) is a laser or LED light therapy that improves tissue repair (skin wounds, muscle, tendon, bone, nerves), reduces inflammation and reduces pain wherever the beam is applied.

Two kinds?

Yes, high power density is necessary for analgesic and deep tissue targets, lower power density is necessary to promote healing and reduce inflammation in superficial wounds, tendons and joints. ATP Therapy use both high and low power density for best healing, deep penetration and analgesia.

Karen Gloyn owner and operator of ATP Therapy is an experienced New Zealand Registered Nurse. Most of her career has been spent in primary health care as a Practice Nurse for General Practitioners, Public Health Nursing and for several years she worked as a nurse in Health Services for the NZ Prison Service.

In 2011 whilst managing her own successful IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) therapy business Karen was introduced to Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) by a colleague.

The concept of reducing inflammation & pain and accelerating tissue repair & healing without the use of medication was compelling. Karen spent time researching this practice, accessing training in Australia over the past 4 years, where she became aware of the growing trend in the use of LLLT in Australia the UK and USA.

LLLT is not new. Scientists have known for many years visible and near infra red light (NIR) has a beneficial effect on cells, however it is only in the past few years that the dose has been reduced to a level which provides sometimes instant results at a cellular level. The best analogy of LLLT is photosynthesis.
